Resolution remark

Kevin Mallen
MJUSD calling attention to their student discipline and disruption has tripled since COVID. Raise awareness during May, mental health awareness month.
Would like individual board member support and other Yuba county leaders and community leaders. Due to language in Call to Action “pledge”, Board should sign collectively, not individually
DB-how does Call to Action relate to enforcement? More school district calling attention. Current partnership at Lindhurst HS for wellness center. Want partners within the community. Administrators are hesitant to enforce rules already on the books.
Support Call to Action, have Chair sign on behalf of the BOS
AV-Where are we in the state in relation to literacy in our schools, different results in different schools, why aren’t they being applied across the board? Can’t support them going into mental health if we can’t do this for them. KM-understanding is disruption in classroom is hindering learning in the classroom. AV-can’t teach kids if you can’t keep their interest. Examples of schools that are extremely good, why can’t they all be that way? KM-comes to full board to see how they will respond. AV-shouldn’t act if MJUSD can’t show up. JL-CoCo reviewed individual request, and language was an issue. So either the Chair signs on behalf of the Board or no one from the Board signs.
KM-follow up item from superintendent at MJUSD to address concerns, but not on today’s agenda
