It is recommended that the Board of Supervisors approve the Certificates of Compliance for the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA) Subvention Program and Medi-Cal Cost Avoidance Program for Fiscal Year 2026–2027 and authorize the Chair to sign both certificates.
Background:
State law requires each county Board of Supervisors to certify that the county meets certain requirements for providing services to veterans. State regulations also require each county to appoint a veteran to serve as its County Veterans Service Officer (CVSO).
Joel Ceja is a veteran and has served as the Yuba-Sutter County Veterans Service Officer since 2025.
The attached Certificates of Compliance must be completed on an annual basis for the County to remain eligible for state funding that supports the Veterans Service Office.
The Yuba-Sutter Veterans Service Office has served local veterans and their families since July 1945. The office helps veterans, their dependents, and survivors apply for and receive federal, state, and local benefits and services. The California Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that more than 10,000 veterans live in the Yuba-Sutter area.
