Background
This department is mandated by law to test and seal all commercial devices within the county. Currently, the department does not have the equipment to perform testing on Electrical Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE). Purchasing this electrical vehicle will allow testing of EVSE and augment the department’s vehicle fleet.
Discussion
Testing EVSE requires specialized equipment to certify their accuracy. State law requires that our department certify the accuracy of all such meters and respond to consumer complaints of inaccuracy on an ongoing basis. The cost of purchasing all the required testing equipment is approximately $121,000. Alternatively, the purchase of this electric vehicle would allow our department to test EVSE using the electric vehicle, along with additional equipment supplied at no cost, by the state Division of Measurement Standards. The purchase of this electrical vehicle will allow us to perform required testing of EVSE and will also be used as part of the department’s normal vehicle fleet.
The Budget Adjustment includes the price of the vehicle, a charging station, and the cost for installation of the charging station.
